lipstick + you // when brand matters
Lipstick is by far my favorite cosmetic. I am not very knowledgeable about makeup or technique when it comes to other products, as it wasn’t something I wore every day until later on, but lipstick has always been the one that knows how to completely redefine a look and make me stand out. Consider lipstick your best friend: it’s there for you on your great days and those that aren’t-so-great. It builds up your confidence and makes you feel ready to conquer anything. Coco Chanel once said, “If you’re sad or heartbroken, make yourself up, dress up, add more lipstick, and attack.” It’s powerful. Lipstick has the power to intimidate and manifest elegance. It is the ammunition of femininity that says, “I am here, I am a woman, and I am invincible."
Let’s be honest. Never fuck with a woman in lipstick.
Long story short, here are a few of my favorite lipsticks and why they are my partners in crime:
HONEYLOVE, MAC COSMETICS // This is by far my favorite lipstick of all time, and is my go-to for everything. Being a neutral shade that is a collision of nude and dusty pink, it can be worn both casually and formally, and creates a pale effect that I love to wear. This especially enhances eyes and skin. I wear this shade almost every day and it is worth the investment. MAC lipsticks are of incredible quality and stay on extremely well.
BLACK CHERRY, REVLON // I always say to people that Black Cherry saves lives. This lipstick is especially good for people who want a look that turns heads, but still has an ounce of normality. This creme lipstick is a deep purple with red undertones, which when applied heavily looks almost black. This is a fun way to dress up a casual street look, and automatically unleashes your inner bad girl to look incredible and rule the streets (see Michelle Phan use a similar shade for a bad-girl look HERE).
BLACK HALLOWEEN LIPSTICK // This is where my opinion gets unpopular. I love cheap makeup. Halloween store makeup, in my opinion, is the essence of life. It is a strange, but fun opportunity to stray from the norm of high-end makeup and experiment with colors that are even cheaper than what you find at the drugstore. I got my black lipstick for three dollars at Spirit Halloween, and it is one of my favorites. Buying for quality is great, but don’t abridge your options solely based on brand. Be fearless and try something new.
