IMG_0087I understand why you wouldn't read this post. Fruit bowls are an overdone diet trend, people just get them for the Instagram photo-op, blah, blah, blah... look, I totally get it. As a person who worked in a juice bar for two years, I have witnessed my fair share of people who are obsessed with fruit bowls, but their overhype doesn't necessarily entail that they aren't delicious and a great way to start the day. So, now that we are all going to shut up about how this is a cliché post, let's dive in,I've made hundreds of these, if not thousands, because of my old job. What I learned quickly is that there is a lot of room for customization with açai and pitaya bowls. Everyone has their own "finishing touch" or mix-in that makes the bowl more beneficial for them than it would initially be (you would literally just be taking in a ton of natural sugars without adding something extra). People get creative, too. Whether it be chopped nuts, chia seeds, yogurt, spinach, peanut butter, granola... people throw in extra stuff to make sure that they are getting their energy for the day. After seeing a plethora of different methodologies to what is approaching art-form status, I crafted my own that works for myself and my routine, and it has been a go-to at home in my kitchen. Here is what you will need:1 Pitaya Plus raw, organic dragonfruit smoothie pack6 frozen pineapple cubes (I like to cut fresh pineapple and freeze it overnight)1/2 frozen banana1/4 cup almond milk2 tbsp Siggi's Icelandic skyr2 tbsp rolled oats1/4 cup cubed mango1 tbsp chia seedsIMG_0096If you're reading the recipe and you're like "what the actual fuck is Icelandic skyr?", I am here to save you. Skyr is essentially yogurt, but in my opinion it is a bit thicker. It is also lower in sugar and fat. I like putting it in smoothies, fruit bowls, or protein shakes, and I also like dipping fruit in it. Okay, moving on.Take the pitaya packet, pineapple, almond milk, skyr, frozen banana, and chia seeds and throw them in your blender (I use my Black & Decker personal size blender). Blend until thick and creamy, but don't overblend until it is watery. Your toppings will hate you if you do.Once you have your blend ready to go, shake that shit into a small bowl. This is where the fun and creativity kicks in. I like to top mine with rolled oats, mango, and a sprinkling of chia seeds. This is what I feel is the best method for me to get my energy and nutrition I need to start my day, so if you think something else works better for you, don't be afraid to branch out and experiment.IMG_0090I've also made you guys a pinboard on MY PINTEREST so you guys can get some inspiration for your own fruit bowl contraptions.
